About Our Logo
We have lived in Tampa our whole lives and love everything about it. When it came time to create a logo, we wanted a design that incorporated and reflected the history that makes the Tampa Bay area special.
The process started with the name. From the very beginning there wasn’t a second thought. The historic Calusa tribe is synonymous with shells, oysters, the water, and the southwest coast of Florida. It had to be Calusa. We are excited to be able to celebrate the original Floridians and showcase what made their tribe special.
Once we had the name, we moved on to the hard part – the design. We wanted to recognize the Calusa with respectful imagery while not dominating the logo. Subtle arrowheads frame the logo on the left and right. Next, we wanted to represent where the farm is located – Lower Tampa Bay. There is nothing more iconic to the waters of Lower Tampa Bay than the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. We cross the bridge to get to the farm and it forms a majestic backdrop to beautiful sunsets every day of the week. Finally, we wanted to celebrate another rich part of Tampa’s history - the cigar. Tampa is known as “The Cigar City” and is there any more iconic shape than the cigar band? The cigar has been a significant part of Tampa’s colorful past for more than 135 years. The cigar band shape was the perfect fit.
We have said it a number of times, we love the Tampa Bay area and are proud to make it a focal point in our logo and hope Calusa Oyster Company is a part of its history for years to come.
