Calusa Oyster Company gives back

A portion of all merchandise sales will support two organizations in the Tampa Bay area that do tremendous work to protect the water that we work in and call home. Those organizations are Tampa Bay Watch and Tampa Bay Waterkeeper. You can find out more about the work they do below.

Tampa Bay Watch, https://tampabaywatch.org/, is dedicated to fostering a healthy Tampa Bay watershed through community-driven restoration projects, education programs, and outreach initiatives. Tampa Bay Watch trains and organizes citizen volunteers, students, at-risk youth, and civic organizations to participate in environmental projects while heightening community awareness of the fragile nature and importance of the environment. Tampa Bay Watch has several oyster specific programs consisting of vertical oyster gardens, oyster reef balls, and oyster shell bags. These activities form the Community Oyster Reef Enhancement (CORE) program. These activities were developed to create a habitat similar to natural oyster communities found along shoreline areas throughout Tampa Bay.

Tampa Bay Waterkeeper, https://www.tampabaywaterkeeper.org/, is a member of the Waterkeeper Alliance, a global network of over 350 grassroots leaders on six continents protecting everyone’s right to clean water. Serving our population of more than 2.7 million people across Hillsborough and Pinellas counties, Tampa Bay Waterkeeper works to improve, protect, and preserve Tampa Bay’s watershed through citizen engagement and community action rooted in sound science and research. Their work is diverse, with core issues including clean water, ecosystem protection, and coastal resiliency. Tampa Bay Waterkeeper researches issues diligently and works collaboratively with citizens, local organizations and governments to find the best solutions to support their work.
